Japan Nanbu Satetsu Tetsubin, Koizumi Nizaemon X, Ōarare Mon Ubaguchi Maru Gata
日本南部砂铁瓶,御釜屋 小泉仁左衛門 十代 大霰文姥口丸形鉄瓶 附供箱

This exceptional Nanbu-style cast-iron kettle—crafted from premium satetsu (refined sand iron)—was specially designed by the 10th-generation master Koizumi Nizaemon for his first visit to Singapore in 2019. The form, Ubaguchi Maru Gata, is full-bodied and rounded, with a classic spout—known for smooth, controlled pouring.

The surface features bold, large arare (hailstone) motifs—known in Japanese as “Ōarare Mon”—which express strength and clarity in their geometric repetition. This design draws a symbolic connection to Singapore’s iconic Esplanade building, affectionately nicknamed the "Durian Shell", while also evoking the spiritual imagery of the Buddha’s ushnisha (cranial protuberance).

Aesthetically balanced between robust form and contemplative subtlety, this tetsubin embodies Koizumi Nizaemon’s unique artistic touch and centuries-old craftsmanship. It is not only a highly practical kettle for tea connoisseurs, but also a collector’s piece of cultural significance—bridging Japanese tradition with Singaporean identity.

Supplied with original signed paulownia wood box (tomobako).
