This cup uses the rare and intricate "Needle-Carved" (Ba Hua / Pa Hua 扒花) technique – once known in the Qing Dynasty court as "embroidery upon brocade". After applying a colored glaze, artisans carefully carve delicate patterns using a fine needle before a second firing at low temperature.

Only fewer than 100 artisans in modern Jingdezhen still master this fading technique.
