The Subtle Power of the Ancient Six Tea Mountains
Mt. Mang Zhi is one of the revered Six Ancient Tea Mountains of Xishuangbanna, known for its subtle power and elegant complexity. Though small in production and lesser known than Yiwu or Manzhuan, Mangzhi is prized by PuErh connoisseurs for its distinct orchid fragrance, silky smoothness, and balanced strength.
A Mountain Steeped in Tea History
Legend has it that Zhuge Liang “placed a bronze spearhead in Mangzhi” , giving the mountain its name. Historical records trace tea cultivation here back over a thousand years, with ancient settlements like Man Sai and Su Di having developed tea agriculture during the Yuan and Ming dynasties.
By the Qing Kangxi era, Mangzhi’s Niuguntang had become a vital tea trading hub in the north of the six tea mountains. Unfortunately, due to human disturbances in the 19th century, Mangzhi’s production scale diminished — which makes surviving ancient tree teas from this area even more rare and precious today.
What Makes Mangzhi Tea Exceptional
Our selected Mangzhi PuErh is made from ancient spring-harvested leaves at an elevation of 1,380 meters. The tea is known for its elegant strength, marked by orchid florals and lively energy.
- Aroma: Gentle orchid fragrance; wild forest freshness in both wet leaves and empty cup
- Taste: Rich and clean with fast-appearing sweetness, very little bitterness or astringency
- Texture: Smooth, viscous, and full-bodied; with strong salivation and a lingering throat feel
- Energy (Qi): Deep and rising — creates warmth in the chest, shoulders, and hands
- Finish: Long and complex, leaving floral-honey fragrance in the mouth for minutes after sipping
Tea Leaf Quality
The leaf integrity is outstanding — thick, soft, and elastic even after multiple steeps. Durable and structured for long sessions or aging.
Why Connoisseurs Choose Mangzhi
Mangzhi is often considered a hidden treasure among the ancient six tea mountains. Its clean, high-energy tea offers a refined PuErh experience for those who seek elegance over aggression. It is especially valued by seasoned drinkers who prefer layered complexity and lingering “mountain charm” over outright intensity.
