A Hidden Gem from Yiwu’s “Seven Villages, Eight Settlements
Gao Shan Village (also known as 高山寨 or 高山村) is one of the most esteemed tea-producing villages within Yiwu Mountain. Located approximately 9 km north of Yiwu Town, at an elevation of around 1,200 meters, Gaoshan earns its name literally—“High Mountain Village”—from its pristine ecology, rich forests, and abundant rainfall.
What sets Gaoshan apart is its rare and well-preserved ancient tea tree ecosystem, where most trees have never been dwarfed or overly cultivated. Towering tea trees grow wild, requiring villagers to climb and harvest by hand. This natural approach preserves the strength, purity, and vitality of the tea leaves.
What to Expect from Gaoshan Sheng PuErh
Harvested in Spring 2014 from ancient trees, this tea showcases balance and depth rarely found:
- Bright golden liquor, crystal clear and inviting
- Thick, tightly rolled leaves, rich in silver buds
- Dense floral aroma that lingers across dry leaves, steeped tea, and empty cup
- Smooth and mellow mouthfeel, with a rounded, honey-like sweetness
- Long-lasting Hui Gan (回甘) and enduring aftertaste
-Clean energy (茶气) that’s elegant and uplifting
A Well-Rounded Yiwu Profile – With a Distinct Character
While many Yiwu teas are celebrated for their gentle character, Gaoshan offers a refined strength, combining the softness of Yiwu with a slightly deeper, longer-lasting texture and aroma. It's a true connoisseur’s pick, often praised for its “sticky fragrance” (密香) and the lingering sense of clarity it leaves behind.
