Hanwa — A Roof of Elegance, A Vessel of Culture
The Hanwa (汉瓦) Teapot draws inspiration from the curved eaves tiles of Han Dynasty architecture — gentle arcs, solemn structures, and a sense of enduring shelter. The name “Hanwa” (literally "Han Tile") evokes ancient roofs that bore witness to centuries of wind, rain, moonlight, and human stories. In the world of Yixing teapots, this form has come to symbolize solidity, simplicity, and timeless elegance.
This teapot’s structure is rounded and slightly arched, resembling the upward curvature of traditional Han tiles. The shoulders are broad, the belly full, and the lines are harmonious yet commanding, like the rhythm of ancient poetry carved into clay. It carries a sense of stability and strength, but never loses grace.
Engraving -It is further elevated by engraving a verse from the Song Dynasty poet Su Shi’s masterpiece 《水调歌头》“Shui Diao Ge Tou”:
“When will the bright moon appear? With a cup of wine in hand, I ask the sky…”
These immortal lines evoke both longing and transcendence, adding layers of cultural depth to the already meaningful vessel.
Clay – Authentic Yixing Zi Ni (Purple Clay)
This teapot is made from original ore Zi Ni, sourced from Huanglong Mountain in Yixing. Zi Ni is a classic clay prized for its balanced porosity and heat retention, making it suitable for all tea types.
Color: Deep purple-brown, modest and rich
Texture: Smooth, fine-grained, elegant without being flashy
Brewing Characteristics: Excellent heat preservation and aroma retention
Microstructure: Dual-porosity system allows for ideal air circulation within the pot, enhancing flavor development during brewing
Zi Ni teapots are often compared to a fine jade maiden — understated yet beautiful, subtle in presence, but powerful in function.
