🏺 Form – Jing Lan (Well-Barrier Shape)
The Jing Lan teapot, originally designed by the famed Qing dynasty scholar Chen Mansheng, is a classical Yixing shape inspired by the protective stone railing around ancient Chinese wells. The teapot features a well-proportioned, upright structure — simple yet poetic, functional yet rich in cultural allusion.
Legend has it that Chen Mansheng, upon observing a maid drawing water from a courtyard well, was struck by inspiration and designed this shape. When his friend suggested naming it “Water-Drawing Pot,” he insisted: “This teapot is born of the moment. Let it be called Jing Lan.”
In traditional Chinese culture, the “Jing Lan” symbolizes stability, protection, and quiet refinement, appearing in architecture, calligraphy, and even metaphysical philosophy.
This version features no additional carving, with a clean and elegant silhouette and a smooth, efficient pour — ideal for both daily use and contemplative tea sessions.
🌕 Clay – Yellow Jiangpo Ni (黄降坡泥)
Jiangpo Ni is a rare clay discovered accidentally in the 1990s during road construction in Yixing’s Dingshu Town. It is a naturally co-existing ore of Zini, Hongni, and Lvni. The yellow variant (Huang Jiang) is particularly prized for its antique tone and rich mineral character.
Once fired, this clay produces a warm orange-yellow body with red undertones, evoking the aesthetic of aged Ming and Qing dynasty clay. With use, it develops a soft, glossy patina, loved by collectors for its evolving depth.
